With the potential for clear evenings looking a bit remote given the current weather I decided to rebuild the spider holding the secondary mirror on my Newtonian. A long time ago I converted it from a 2 vane to a 4 vane (mainly for photo aesthetics) but the replacement I made had rather flimsy vanes which weren't ideal for maintaining good collimation. After much hacksawing of aluminium sheet and drilling of holes I have arrived at something considerably more rigid....a clear night now needed to check that it is performing OK.
