I was never able to get anything very exciting on film when trying to image M31 so when Deep Sky Stacker coughed up this image of the galaxy it came as quite a surprise to see such obvious spiral arms. Any experienced digital photographers will probably start yawning at this point as I have much to learn in this new realm of astrophotography but I found it amazing that all this detail lies buried in the sub exposures and probably did to some extent in my early efforts on film if only I had known how to extract it then. Details: Canon 450D@ iso400 16x 100 second exposures (+4 darks) prime focus on 10" Newtonian f4.3. Deep Sky Stacker & CS2
One of the subs is shown for comparison.
