My old 1.1/4" rack & pinion focuser suffered from terrible image shift while focusing. The upgrade to a 2" Crayford from Astronomica was a huge improvement. The motor focuser was cobbled together from parts of a timer mechanism and a motor from a scrapped cassette deck. It works fine but falls apart once in a while. A mark 2 version never seems to get built.
