An unexpected surprise in the last few days is the appearance of a supernova in M 95. I am indebted to Simon Edwins for alerting me to the event which allowed me to attempt an image of it last night (21/3/12). Designated SN 2012aw it is quite bright and I would guess it should be detectable through the eyepiece of a modest scope. The transparency was much affected by a misty sky that prevailed throughout the evening but the clouds stayed away and I was pleased to add another supernova image to my collection. Details: 10" f4.3 Newt. 12 x 8 minute exposures @ iso1600 with CLS in DSS, FIV, CS2 & XAT.
